BHK cells (Baby Hamster Kidney Cell) were established in 1961, which are fibroblasts with wall-dependent properties.The BHK-21 monoclonal cell line was obtained in 1963, and the cells could be grown in suspension after several passages. This cell line is sensitive to a variety of viruses, and is widely used in the production of viral vaccines, such as foot-and-mouth disease vaccine, rabies vaccine, and can also be used to amplify pseudorabies virus, Newcastle disease virus, duck yellows virus and so on. Based on the growth characteristics of BHK-21 cells, we have developed a protein-free and serum-free culture medium for BHK-21 cells.
The medium can support the suspension culture of multiple BHK-21 cell lines from different sources, and maintain a high growth rate, the highest cell density of multiple cell lines reaches more than 1.0×107cells/ml, and the cell activity is more than 95%. The medium supports large-scale scale-up of bioreactor culture, and the culture scale of multiple cell lines can reach more than 6000L.
